The Secretary-General of the KRG's Ministry of Peshmerga confirmed that the dangers of the ISIS terrorist organization to global security continue, especially in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, and regions in Afghanistan and some European countries.

Lieutenant General Jabbar Yawar said  during a televised statement: "In Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as well, this terrorist organization still poses a threat and has presence and movements in the areas of contact between the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army."

He explained: "We in the Peshmerga forces have formed a tight defensive line that extends from Khanaqin to the Rabi'a areas, and this defensive line is still standing, and most of the terrorist operations were not recorded in the areas where the Peshmerga forces are stationed, but in the areas where the army forces are stationed."

He pointed out that the ISIS terrorist organization carried out 230 terrorist operations in different regions during the past year, which indicates that the dangers of ISIS terrorist organization still persist, so efforts must be unified and operations coordinated to completely eliminate the risks of terrorists.

Although Iraq has announced victory over the ISIS terrorist organization in 2017 after 3 years of war, the terrorist organization still carries out insurgency attacks trying to regain strength in the country especially in the areas disputed between the KRG and the Iraqi government such as Khanaqin, Kirkuk... etc, as the terrorists exploit the large security gaps created after the withdrawal of Kurdish Peshmerga forces from the disputed areas in 2017.

It is noteworthy that the disputed areas are originally Kurdish areas defined by Article 140 of the Iraqi constitution as being Arabized during the former Iraqi Baath Regime.
