On Wednesday, Turkish warplanes intensively bombed several areas within the Kurdistan Region, shortly after the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the start of a new military operation against the PKK militants.

Turkish defense ministry announced on Wednesday that they have landed army forces in Kurdistan Region's Mount Gara, 53 km northeast of Duhok.

According to the Turkish defense ministry said in a statement that their operation began at 2:55 (local time).

According to PUKmedia information, no casualties have fallen but the operation caused great damage to resident's agricultural lands.

Turkey has repeatedly bombarded areas within the Kurdistan Region claiming that it is targeting PKK in the area. It has launched another air and ground military operation in the Kurdistan Region in mid-June last year, on the grounds of targeting alleged PKK positions.

Iraqi authorities have repeatedly called on Turkey to stop violating Iraq's borders and sovereignty.

Thousands of acres of land have been burnt and many villages have been evacuated due to Turkish bombings, and even civilian casualties have fallen due to the continuous Turkish operations in the Kurdistan Region.
