“The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested more than 30 members of the Islamic State organization (ISIS) on Saturday, during two days of a large-scale operation started in Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor,” Siyamend Ali, media official of the People’s Protection Units (YPG), told North Press.

Ali added that the participated forces arrested more than 30 ISIS members and took over a tunnel which ISIS used as a room for its operations, in addition to seizing weapons and ammunition.

He stated that ISIS sleeper cells had targeted areas in Hasakah country side with bombs, and assassinating civilians and employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

In statement published on Friday, the SDF press office announced the launch of a new large-scale operation against ISIS sleeper cells, with participation of the YPG, Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) and the Internal Security Forces (Asayish).

The large-scale operation includes the entire Deir ez-Zor desert and along the Syrian-Iraqi border, according to the SDF statement.

The SDF press office pointed out that the operation is still going on, where all the related details will be shared with the public in the coming days.

On Friday, the SDF announced the detention of dozens of ISIS militants and the confiscation of massive amounts of ammunition in Deir ez-Zor, during the first day of the new military operation against ISIS.
