Pictures: Making Kurdish Clothes belts

Osman Rahman Osman is a Kurdish man from Sulaymaniya and is known as Belts Seller Osman who has been making and selling Kurdish clothes belts for over 40 years.

 

Men's Kurdish traditional clothes in the Kurdistan Region consists of baggy pants that may be colorful, but are more often muted earth tones. Men wear plain shirts, and generally wear vests or jackets over their shirts. The outfit is completed by a large belt or sash tied around the waist with a turban wrapped around their heads.

 

The belts are often colorful with different patterns on the fabric.

 

Osman says that he began working as a salesman with his brothers and relatives ever since he was a kid and now he has colorful and and various types of belts at his own shop and has many people working for him.

 

He opens his shop early in the morning and closes at the evening. Many people visit his shop for good quality belts to wear on their Kurdish clothes.

 

Although we are now in winter and Kurdish clothes is worn less due to the cold weather but Osman says that many people still visit him pointing out that Kurdish clothes is mostly worn during springs.
