ISIS has formally adopted the responsibility of the explosions that took lives of over 30 people and injured more than 100 in Iraqi capital Baghdad.

A double terrorist attack by two suicide bombers took place on Thursday in the Bab al-Sharqi district in Baghdad.

The ISIS terrorist organization said in a statement published on its media that one of its members, the terrorist named Abu Yusef Al-Ansari, detonated an explosive belt that he was wearing in the Aviation Square, while a second explosion was carried out in the same way by another terrorist named Muhammad Arif al-Muhajir.

It was a rare deadly attack in the Iraqi capital. The city has seen almost no such bombings since the military defeat of the Islamic State in Iraq in 2017.

So far, 32 people have died and 110 were injured in the explosion according to the Iraqi authorities.

The deadly attack received wide condemnation from all components of Iraq and the world as well.

PUK Co-Leader, Lahur Sheikh Jangi said in tweet on Twitter: "We strongly condemn the suicidal terrorist attack in the federal capital, Baghdad, which caused the death and injury of a number of innocent citizens. This terrorist attack is a clear indication of the continuing dangers of terrorism and the presence of sleeper cells of terrorist groups in the country."

"The planners and perpetrators of these terrorist attacks are aiming to eliminate efforts to resolve crises and to destroy the unity between the political parties that are working to create a national dialogue. We call on all the political factions to work to preserve unity and to make every effort to foil these criminal attempts. We ask God to bestow his mercy on the martyrs, grant them paradise and to give peace to their families and we wish the wounded a speedy recovery," he added.

US for its part condemned the terrorist attack, as the US embassy in Baghdad said in a tweet: "The United States strongly condemns the suicide attack at the Aviation Square in Baghdad today that killed and injured dozens of innocent Iraqi civilians, the embassy said in a statement on their official twitter account."

"This attack is a reprehensible act of cowardice that underscores the dangers of terrorism that millions of Iraqis continue to face. We extend our condolences to the families of these victims, and hope for the swift recovery for those who were injured," the statement added.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said in a statement strongly condemning the attacks: "Perpetrators behind twin deadly suicide bombings at a busy market in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on Thursday must be prosecuted."

"I appeal to the people of Iraq to reject any attempts to spread fear & violence & call on the Government to ensure that those behind these crimes are brought to justice," he added.

German Foreign Minister also expressed anger at the terrorist act saying: "I condemn today’s attacks in Baghdad in the strongest possible terms and express my deepest sympathy to the families of the victims and to the Iraqi people. I wish the many people who have been injured a speedy recovery."

"As a reliable partner, Germany stands shoulder to shoulder with Iraq on its path to long‑term stability and development. We will continue our civilian engagement and military support within the framework of the Global Coalition against Daesh and the NATO mission in Iraq in order to safeguard, together with Iraq, the progress made in recent years in the long term," he added.
