Kurdish girl wins top literature award in Sweden

Balsam Kamil Karam Faili, Kurdish author and writer abroad, has been awarded with Sweden's top literary award for her one of her latest novels written in Sweden.

 

Balsam is the daughter of Kamil Karam Faili who is a prominent leader of the Iraqi communist party.

 

Balsam's family were expelled from Iraq to Iran in the eighties by the former Iraqi Baath regime for being Faili Kurds. Balsam was born in 1982 as her family were refugees in Iran.

 

They later migrated to the Soviet Union and from there to Afghanistan and finally they managed to reach Sweden in 1990.

 

Balsam was 7 years old when she arrived in Sweden and she began school there. Being a bright smart kid, she managed to finish school successfully and get masters degree in literature.

 

She has always had passion for literature and her hobbies were writing stories and novels in Sweden.

 

Her novels were so meaningful and beautiful that she received great reviews from readers and academics.
