In a rare phenomenon, Kaywan Kamaran, a 29 years old man from Sulaymaniyah, raises and breeds snakes as pets and aims to reconcile between people and snakes.

Snakes are mostly known to be dangerous reptiles as most of them have venomous fangs but in contradiction to that, Kaywan wants to show that these misunderstood animals do not deserve the bad reputation they have among humans.

Raising animals at home is not very common among Kurdish people, especially in urban areas and for a Kurdish person to raise snake is a very rare situation.

Kaywan told PUKmedia: "I've had passion for raising and dealing with those animals that humans are afraid of ever since I was a kid, especially snakes, so I began raising snakes in 2013 and I am still continuing."

"I have prepared and built a special room for the snakes and currently, I have 6-7 snakes... I used to have 20-30 snakes before but I lost some of them due to cold and the coronavirus outbreak and travel ban to other countries, I have not been able to get any more of them."

Kaywan says that raising snakes is very hard but for him it is his hobby, so he doesn't find it hard at all, he even believes that everyone can raise snakes.

He feeds them deforested food. He says that some snakes can survive with no food for up

to tone month.

The snakes that Kaywan has are not venomous and do not bite people.

The snake breeder Kaywan called on the Kurdistan Regional Government to support him to develop his work by allocating a special space for raising snakes, and reconcile between snakes and people.
