KRG Agriculture Minister discusses strengthening cooperation with her Iraqi counterpart

A Senior delegation headed by Begard Talabani, Minister of Agriculture in the Kurdistan Regional Government, held a meeting with the Iraqi Federal Minister of Agriculture and officials of the Ministry of Agriculture in the federal government.

 

Begard Talabani, Minister of Agriculture in the Kurdistan Regional Government, said in a statement that the meeting discussed a number of important files related to the development of the agricultural sector.

 

She pointed out that the meeting took a number of good steps at the level of all agricultural fields, unification of the agricultural calendar, the field of animal and poultry breeding, agricultural research and seeds, in addition to discussing the phenomenon of illegally importing products and ways to address this phenomenon.

 

She said: "We discussed with the Minister of Agriculture in the federal government the issue of protecting the local product of the butcheries in the Kurdistan Region by labeling with numbers and special logo of the ministry on the products, and this project was welcomed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture."

 

"In this regard, we provided a high-quality model of this project to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in order to identify the products of the Kurdistan Region in the markets of the KRI, central and south of Iraq."

 

The Minister of Agriculture indicated that it was decided that the Federal Minister of Agriculture and a specialized team from the Ministry of Agriculture would visit the Kurdistan Region to enhance coordination and cooperation between the two sides in a way that would contribute to the development of the agricultural and irrigation sector in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

 

The KRG Minister of Agriculture with her accompanying delegation has been in Baghdad for three days to meet Iraqi officials aiming to strengthen relations between the two parties in the agricultural sector, ensuring the financial dues of Kurdish farmers and general discussion regarding agriculture.
