Messi: Guardiola and Luis Enrique are the best

Lionel Messi was full of praise for two of his former coaches at Barcelona in Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique during an interview with Jordi Evole, which will be shown on LaSexta at 21:25 CET on December 27.

 

The Barcelona captain highlighted what he learnt under the two coaches, making clear they helped him to improve as a player.

 

"Pep has something special. He makes you see things in one way: how he prepares for matches, defensively, how to attack... he told you exactly how the match was going to be, how you had to attack to win," Messi told Jordi Evole during the interview.

 

"I was lucky, in quotation marks, to train under Guardiola and Luis Enrique, the two best. Having them made me grow a lot physically and mentally, and also the tactical wisdom they've taught me.

 

"Guardiola coached Messi from the 2008/09 season until the end of the 2011/12 campaign, during which time Barcelona won 14 trophies. On a personal level, the Argentine won three Ballon d'Or awards, two European Golden Boots and two Pichichis.

 

Luis Enrique, meanwhile, spent one season less with Messi - from 2014/15 to 2016/17 - and in his spell Barcelona lifted nine trophies. Individually, Messi won one Ballon d'Or, one European Golden Boot and one Pichichi.

 

The 33-year-old opened up about his last few months at Barcelona, having handed in a transfer request via burofax last summer, but he is now focused on Barcelona as he enters the final six months of his contract.

 

"I'm fine today. It's true that I had a very bad time in the summer," Messi admitted in the interview.

 

"It came from before. What happened before the summer, the way the season ended, the burofax and all that... Then I dragged it with me a bit at the beginning of the season, but I'm fine today."

 

I feel like seriously fighting for everything that's ahead of us. I feel excited. I know that the club is going through a difficult time, at the club and team level, and everything around Barcelona is difficult, but I am looking forward to it.

 

"Jordi Evole also gave a mini insight into what they discussed, stating that it came after the defeats to Juventus and Cadiz, while also refusing to explicitly state if Messi could head to MLS side Inter Miami in the future.

 

"Put on the TV on Sunday: but you aim very well..." Evole told Cadena SER's Carrusel Deportivo when asked if Messi could end up at Inter Miami.

 

During the interview, Messi did state that he wishes he could go more unnoticed at times.

 

"I am privileged for everything I have experienced, but there are times when I would like to be anonymous," he confessed.

 

"I would like to be able to enjoy going to a street market, a cinema or a restaurant, especially when I am with my children."
