Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), announced on Tuesday evening that an agreement has been reached with the Iraqi government on the draft federal budget law for 2021.

Qubad Talabani said during a press conference: "The KRG delegation has been in the capital, Baghdad, for two weeks in order to guarantee the financial dues for the Kurdistan Region, and we have reached an agreement with the federal government on the draft federal budget law for the year 2021."

He added: "After that, we began discussing the implementation of the draft law on financing the fiscal deficit with all governmental and partisan parties, and we told everyone that we are ready to implement the provisions of the law on financing the fiscal deficit, which concerns the last months of the year 2020."

He continued: "The law has set two conditions before the Kurdistan Region, namely the delivery of oil and non-oil imports, and we have confirmed our readiness to implement these two conditions, but so far the federal government has not determined the share allocated to the Kurdistan Region according to the law on financing the fiscal deficit, and we hope that the federal government will respond to our request and determine our share in the fiscal deficit financing law before the end of this year."

He pointed out: "Next year will be a difficult year, and we need to work together to face the challenges and spare Iraq and the Kurdistan Region from financial crises. I am optimistic that we can address all problems and obstacles with cooperation between all parties."

Qubad Talabani said: "The dialogues are continuing with the federal government and have not failed, and we were able to reach an agreement on the 2021 budget, which was approved by the Federal Council of Ministers, and most of the points discussed have entered the budget and we are awaiting approval in the Council of Representatives for the sake of the Iraqi people."

He explained: "Today, I represent the legitimate issue of the people of Kurdistan, and if the budget is passed in the Council of Representatives, there will be no problem in salaries of employees for the next year 2021."

He said: "We had a dialogue with political parties and representatives of parliamentary blocs and tried to correct the wrong information that existed about the Kurdistan Region, and we must work more and strengthen our relations with the political parties and continue our visits to Baghdad and we must strengthen the bridges of relations with the political parties in Baghdad to defend the rights and financial dues of the Kurdistan Region and to have a role in general policy in Iraq."
