PUK an umbrella for coexistence and rapprochement between religions and components

We are approaching the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the start of the new revolution of our people, this party has achieved many great achievements that cannot be summarized with a few pages, because they are written with letters of sacrifice and struggle that were done by the heroes of this party and its martyrs whose pure blood watered the land of Kurdistan, its mountains and its valleys.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has played an active role in consolidating the foundations of democracy and peaceful coexistence between different nationalities, religions and sects in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, by proposing new concepts and a new culture based on democratic foundations that Iraq had not yet known, thanks to the wise leadership of the late President Jalal Talabani or Mam Jalal.

The PUK is the only party close to the Shiites

The leader of the nation, President Mam Jalal, was an advocate of harmony and peace by bringing all components together to confront the discord and division between the people of one country, which prompted the supreme religious authority in Iraq, His Eminence Sayyid Ali Sistani, has described President Mam Jalal as the valve for the safety of Iraq.

The Shiites appreciate the beautiful and deep positions of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan towards their sect, as the PUK and in the stages of the struggle against the Ba'athist regime represented a strong alliance with the Shiite component, and even after the fall of the tyrant Saddam, the situation remained as it is, and the relation between PUK and Shiite leaders has even deepened.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan had a great role in preserving the lives of Iraqis in general and the Shiite community in particular, in the period that followed the fall of the Baathist regime in Iraq.

The leaders of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, headed by the late President Mam Jalal, the late great struggler Adel Murad, and the late Peshmerga hero, Jabbar Farman, are the ones who laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Husayniyya al-Hakim Mosque (Shiite Mosque), which is the only Husayniyah in the Kurdistan Region and located in the city of Sulaymaniyah.

For his part, Dr. Esmat Al-Khaqani, Imam of the Husayniyya mosque  in Sulaymaniya told PUKmedia: "It is no secret to all Iraqis the role of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in the struggle against dictatorship and chauvinistic Ba'athist rule in Iraq, and it suffered with the arrest, killing and abuse of the Ba’ath government and was with its brothers and among the factions of the resistance from the people of the center and south to fight in the eighties of the last century and nineties in Kurdistan and participated in many tasks in order to meet freedom and get rid of the dictatorship.

He added: "The PUK gave sacrifices and martyrs with the Shiites, and we are grateful for this giving party, which is still participating in the new Iraq with the Iraqi government and has a major role through its leaders who represent the distinguished figure of the late President Mam Jalal and those who follow his path."

"The PUK is still giving a lot for freedom and democracy in Iraq, and it is the only party close to the government in Baghdad and the Shiites."

The PUK, on top of them, Mam Jalal, is a defender and lawyer for Yezidis

Defending the rights of the Yazidi component and defining the crimes of genocide that they were exposed to internationally is one of the demands of the Yazidis from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

As Member of Parliament Hussein Nermo said during a special statement to PUKmedia: "The PUK had a great role through the founders, and they had a prominent role in the Kurdish revolution after 1975, when they took to the field and practiced armed struggle for the rights of the Kurdish people and the rights of all components of the people of Kurdistan."

He added: "Until he died, the immortal Mam Jalal had a prominent role in the leadership of the PUK, and frankly, during our meetings with him he considered himself a lawyer for minor components and components under the name of minorities, especially the Yazidi component, in order to obtain their rights in a free and democratic Kurdistan and he is known as the founder of federalism."

Nermo pointed out that he resembles the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, with the Russian revolution, through which the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan was able to reach a competition in the struggle and the armed revolutionary movement, within a short period.

On the rights of the rest of the minorities, Nermo stressed that the fourth congress of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which was held in Sulaymaniyah, where the joint presidency system was approved and Lahur Sheikh Jangi and Bafel Talabani were elected as co-Leaders of the PUK, stressed the rights of minorities, especially the crisis of Shingal (Sinjar) in 2014 and the crimes against the Yezidis by the terrorist organization ISIS, in order to define these crimes as genocide internationally.

He continued, that the new leadership in the PUK will be wise, will not be a substitute for Mam Jalal, but rather an extension of the struggle of the nation’s late President Mam Jalal to obtain the legitimate rights of all components under the banner of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

The PUK and the role of Mam Jalal in serving the Christians

The Christian component in Sulaymaniyah praised the role and history of the late President, Mam Jalal, calling to continue on his path after him to complete this approach.

Pastor Ayman Aziz, pastor of the Mary Joseph Chaldean Church in Sulaymaniyah, explained during a special statement to PUKmedia the role that the PUK played, saying: "When we talk about the PUK, we are talking about the history of the late Mam Jalal in establishing the party, which had a fundamental position in the service of citizens and components in the region, especially Christians in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region."

He added: "We are valuaing Mam Jalal’s efforts in serving the people and the Christian component, especially after the accident of the 2010 bombing of the Church of "Our Lady of Salvation", with the arrival of Christian families to the city of Sulaymaniyah and the role of Mam Jalal in overseeing the service of these families for several years by securing money for them and providing housing for 3 consecutive years."

"And an essential role in cultivating love and harmony between the different regions, nationalities and religions, this approach taken by Mam Jalal was planted in many of the people of Sulaymaniyah, which we see in Kirkuk as well, being from Kirkuk."

He concluded his speech by: "God willing, this role will continue and continue in the PUK, and will be better through the new leaderships, which has a role in strengthening brotherhood and love between the components."
