The first meeting of the General Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan ended shortly before on Tuesday, and a committee was elected to implement amendments to the internal system.

In an interview with reporters after the meeting, interim Leadership Council chairman, Mustafa Chawrash said that 20 members among the members of the Council were elected to form the committee, indicating that the committee will end its work during the next two weeks and there will be another meeting of the council after two weeks to vote on the amendments.

With regard to the election of the council secretary and his deputies, Chawrash said that discussions will be made after the completion of the amendment of the internal system and "according to what comes in it", stressing that "the renewal in the PUK starts from here and we are all responsible for that and we have to work for that."

Regarding the situation in Iraq and the position of the PUK, Chawrash said,

"We live in Iraq, which has become an arena for conflicts, and we must be up to the responsibility and that there must be unity of class and a unified Kurdish position in the Region and Baghdad."

On the election of the Secretary of the Council and the President of the PUK, Chawarsh confirmed that "the door is open for all members of the Council to run for the two positions," noting that this matter will be resolved after the completion of the amendments to the internal system.

It is noteworthy that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan held its 4th Congress on December 21, 2019, and elected the 124 members for the General Leadership Council, while Mustafa Chawrash presided over the first meeting of the Council as the oldest member until election of a secretary for the Council.
