Opening mass graves of the Anfal victims in Samawah

It is scheduled to open mass graves of the Kurdish Anfal victims by the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government in the desert of Samawa immediately after Eid al-Fitr.

 

Yasser al-Araji, editor-in-chief of the "Wisa'a" news agency in Muthanna, said in a statement to PUKmedia on Monday 20/5/2019 that the Martyrs Foundation in Baghdad and the Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs in the Kurdistan Region will open three mass graves containing the remains of women and children of the Kurdish Anfal victims Located in the desert of Samawah, after Eid al-Fitr.

 

Al-Araji himself revealed to PUKmedia on Saturday (April 14th) that a mass grave of the Anfal victims was found in the Samawah desert.

 

The governor of Muthanna Ahmed Manfi Joudeh announced in a brief statement on Friday, "finding a mass grave of the victims of the former regime in the desert of Samawah," adding that "these victims are Kurds."

 

 

For its part, the Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs confirmed that the remains of people found in a mass grave in Muthanna province belonged to Kurdish citizens.

 

In a statement to PUKmedia on Saturday 13/4/2019, Fuad Osman, spokesman for the Ministry of Martyrs' Affairs told PUKmedia that, the Ministry of Martyrs' Affairs communicated with Muthanna province after announcing the discovery of a mass grave of the victims of the former regime in the Samawah desert, pointing out that the evidence indicates that the victims are from the Kurds, noting that their number is not known now.

 

He added that the Ministry of Martyrs' Affairs coordinates with the Martyrs Foundation in Baghdad to extract the remains and send samples to the forensic medicine in Baghdad to conduct DNA tests and verify the identities of the victims, adding that the ministry will receive the remains of the victims afterwards.
