On Monday 22 April 2019, the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan congratulated journalists on the occasion of the 121th anniversary of the publication of the first Kurdish newspaper in the name of Kurdistan.

A statement issued by the Political Bureau: “On the occasion of the anniversary of the publication of the first Kurdish newspaper congratulations to journalists in Kurdistan and elsewhere are continuing their duties to serve the Kurdish press.”

The publication of the newspaper "Kurdistan" in 1898 by Prince Medhat Badrakhan, is a major transformation, so the occasion is not only a journalist, but recalling a historic shift in the political and cultural struggle of the people of Kurdistan towards the realization of his rights. On the occasion of the day, we must evaluate previous experiences and constructive criticism to develop the Kurdish press and address all shortcomings.

On this occasion, we emphasize the consistent policy of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan on press freedoms, as well as the commitment to the Kurdistan Press Law, the press profession and the highest interests of Kurdistan, especially the living conditions of citizens.

Once again, we congratulate the people of Kurdistan and the journalists in particular, on the occasion of the Kurdish Press Day on the anniversary of the publication of the Kurdistan Press 121 years ago.
