President Salih condemns the criminal assault on worshipers in New Zealand

President Barham Salih on Friday, March 15, 2019, deplored the criminal attack that targeted worshipers in two mosques in the area of Christchurch of New Zealand.

 

A statement by His Excellency affirmed "the targeting of the worshipers with such violence and barbarity is an assault on all values of good and harmony among societies.

 

The President reiterated his assertion that addressing terrorism and extreme Takfiri ideology requires cooperation, coordination, and international efforts to eradicate it and drain its sources.

The following is the full text of the statement:

 

"In the name of Allah the Merciful

With great anger and condemnation, we have followed the news about the heinous attack conducted by the terrorists on defenseless citizens who were performing Friday prayers in two mosques in the area of Christchurch of New Zealand.

 

The targeting of worshipers with such violence and barbarity is an attack on all the values of good and harmony among societies. 

 

We reaffirm our assertion that terrorism has become an international phenomenon which requires cooperation, coordination, and international efforts in order to limit its spread, eliminate it, and drain its sources as well as the sources of its funding

 

May mercy and forgiveness be upon the innocent victims and patience and solace for their families.
