Halabja province is preparing to commemorate the horrific 31st anniversary of Halabja’s tragedy on Saturday, 2019/3/16, with the participation of officials from the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, and members of the Parliament of Kurdistan and the Council of Representatives, as well as partisan officials, and the victims of the bombing of the city of Halabja.
On March 16, 1988, the Ba’ath regime has bombarded Halabja city with chemical weapons, killing more than 5,000 people in a few minutes, who were mostly women and children.
In a statement to PUKmedia on Friday, Azad Tawfiq, governor of Halabja, said that the ceremony will begin at 10 am on Saturday at the closed hall in the city of Halabja Shahida, with the participation of party officials, government and consuls of countries and families of Halabja martyrs.
He added that the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of Halabja’s tragedy includes a variety of activities, stressing the completion of all preparations to commemorate the occasion successfully.
