On Saturday, September 29, Ziyad Raoof KRG Representative in Poland together with a large group of guests from Poland and abroad attended solemn celebration of Lech Walesa 75th birthday and 35th anniversary of receiving Nobel Peace Prize. The event took place in the Polish Baltic Philharmonic in Gdansk.

Lech Walesa is one of the most recognizable Polish politicians in the world, the legendary leader of the "Solidarity" movement. He contributed to the peaceful overthrow of communism in Poland, which led to further great changes: the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Cold War and the democratization of Central and Eastern Europe. In the years 1990-1995, Lech Walesa was the president of Poland, later he remained an influential figure working for democracy and defending human rights all over the world. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his activity

At the event were present about five hundred guests from Poland and abroad: politicians, members of parliament, a few dozen of ambassadors, intellectualists, representatives of academic and cultural circles. Ceremony was attended also by Donald Tusk- the President of the European Council who presented the letter of wishes from the 27 leaders of the European Union. After giving wishes to Lech Walesa, a concert took place and later a banquet.

Lech Walesa met the KRG Representative on several occasions in Poland, he always declared his sympathy and support for the Kurdish issue, he was also invited to Kurdistan in 2013 for the anniversary commemoration of Anfal, but for health reasons his visit fell through.
