Thousands of tourists visit Dukan during Newroz

On the first day of Spring and the Kurdish new year of Newroz Monday thousands of tourists went to the Dukan district, 69 km northwest of Slemani.

The Dukan district, which Dukan town is its center, is one of the major tourist attraction areas of the Kurdistan Region with its beautiful views and the Dukan lake and the Dukan lake Resort which contains tourist projects, newly built hotels, cabins, restaurants, and other tourist facilities either in the upper side of Dukan by the lake or downward by Qashqoli River. 

The tourist areas in the Kurdistan Region witness great reception of tourists during the Newroz feast every year, where Kurdish men, women, and children wear bright colored Kurdish clothes and go out for picnics and sometimes, even none Kurdish tourists are amazed by the beautiful Kurdish dress and wear them.

Newroz is the Kurdish new year, where people celebrate the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year, where fire is lit on that day. The celebration coincides with the March equinox which falls on 21 March. The festival has an important place in terms of Kurdish identity for the majority of Kurds.
