Syrian Observatory: SDF will storm Al Hasakah prison

The Syrian Democratic Forces intend to storm the Industrial Prison in the Ghweran neighborhood of the city of Al Hasakah in northeastern Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Press reports said on Monday, that violent clashes erupted between the Asayish forces, with the support of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and ISIS terrorists holed up inside the prison after which the SDF called on the terrorists to surrender before storming the prison.

Director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdul Rahman, in an exclusive statement to PUKmedia, confirmed that the SDF will storm the prison in which a number of terrorists who launched the attack on the prison a few days ago are holed up, pointing out that there are many terrorists outside the prison, the SDF and the security forces in Al Hasakah are searching for them.

Meanwhile, the SDF announced their control of one of the prison buildings after 300 mercenaries surrendered to their forces, amid the continued combing of Ghweran neighborhood.

On Sunday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that they are close to the final elimination of the terrorists who attacked Al Hasakah prison three days ago.

January 20, 2022, a complex attack was carried out on the Hasakah detention facility in Al Hasakah province, Syria. The SDF immediately responded to the threat, cordoning the area, and have conducted sustained operations since the attack began on Thursday night. 

The assault on the Ghweran prison in the northern city of Al Hasakah is one of ISIS’s most significant since its "caliphate" was declared defeated in Syria nearly three years ago.

"At least 28 members of the Kurdish security forces, five civilians and 45 members of ISIS have been killed" in the violence, said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

ISIS launched the attack on Thursday night against the prison housing some 3,500 suspected members of the militant group, including some of its leaders, said the Observatory.

The extremists "seized weapons they found" in the detention center, said the Britain-based monitor.

Hundreds of militant inmates had since been recaptured but dozens were still believed to be on the loose, the Observatory said.

On Monday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that it is still besieging al-Sina’a prison, which has been witnessing a riot by inmates of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS), in Al Hasakah, northeast Syria, for four successive days since Thursday.

Last night experienced ongoing hovering by the US-led Global Coalition aircrafts, which targeted several sites with bullets, but clashes were not so severe like those that continued at noon.

The SDF continues to cordon off al-Sina’a prison, which houses thousands of ISIS detainees, with the aim of regaining control over it, in tandem with a combing campaign in Guweran neighborhood surrounding the prison in search of three ISIS sleeper cells members who carried out an attack three days ago, according the SDF General Command.

“To eliminate the remnants of the terrorist organization, and we will completely eradicate it, and rid the world of this evil. This is our decision, and our response to the ISIS attack will be accordingly,” it stressed.

The SDF is still calling the stranded ISIS inmates in al-Sina’a prison, through loudspeakers to surrender and lay down their weapons.
