Health Ministry: There is continuous escalation in number of Covid cases
Iraq 10:21 PM - 2022-01-16
On Sunday, the Iraqi Ministry of Health confirmed that the increase in the Coronavirus cases in recent days portends a new, more dangerous wave.
The spokesman for the Ministry, Saif Al-Badr, said in a statement, "There is a continuous escalation in the number of Covid cases in recent days, and this is an indication that may warn of the beginning of a more dangerous epidemic wave."
He continued that currently, the Health Ministry has 64 cases in intensive care and has thousands of vacant beds in central care, and this confirms that the situation in Iraq is under control.
Al-Badr stressed, "We cannot predict the situation shortly if 3 factors persist, i.e. the escalation of the number of cases and not following preventive measures and the continuation of the mediocre demand for vaccines, because the risk of the pandemic will rise.”
Regarding the registration of new infections with the Omicron mutant within the epidemiological situation for the last days, Al-Badr explained that no cases of the mutant were recorded, except for what was announced a few days ago.
