Al-Sadr calls on disbanding unruly militias in Iraq

Iraq 10:02 PM - 2021-12-08

On Wednesday, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, confirmed that the return of terrorism in Makhmur and the Basra bombings predict worsening of the political situation.

Al-Sadr said in a tweet, “The return of terrorism represented by ISIS in the Makhmur district and the political bombings that took place in Basra Governorate, and some assassinations from here and there, foretell worsening the political situation, and their resort to violence reminds us of the attacks on hospitals and other events before the elections."

Al-Sadr continued that this causes danger on Iraq and people for the sake of some "seats," and he emphasized the need to disband all the unruly militias that misuse weapons under the pretext of resistance.

"It even indicates the spread of corruption and its prevalence in the joints of the country, and this increases our determination to fight the corruption regardless of the perpetrator," he added.

Al-Sadr affirmed, "if solutions are not available for this, the (national majority government) will adopt this with force and under the law, and no one is excluded."

He called on the authorities to find out the facts in these terrorist acts and wished a speedy recovery for the wounded.
