Marathon held in celebration of Slemani Founding Anniversary

On Sunday morning, a marathon was held on the occasion of the 237th anniversary of the founding of the city of Slemani, the cultural capital in the Kurdistan Region.

The marathon was dedicated to 3 of the renowned Kurdish poets (Mawlawi, Piramerd, Salim).

A participant who came from Duhok city won first place in the marathon.

The young Fatah Taimur Goran, who won the marathon, was from the Goranat region in Duhok.

Rewards was also distributed to the winners, by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)'s 1st Organizations Center in Slemani, the Sports Board of the PUK, and some companies.

It is noteworthy that today, November 14, marks the 237th founding anniversary of the city of Slemani.

The modern city of Slemani was founded on November 14, 1784, by the Kurdish Emir Ibrahim Pasha Baban, who named the city after his father, Suleiman Pasha, one of the Emirs of the Baban dynasty, which had an emirate during that period in the Slemani region.
