Over 43,000 students accepted at public universities, institutes of Kurdistan Region

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced on Monday that over 43,000 students have been accepted at the public universities and institutes of the Kurdistan Region for the academic year 2021-2022.

Khattab Ahmed, Director-General of Education Department at the Ministry of Higher Education, said during a press conference that a total of 63,324 students have passed high school in the Kurdistan Region during the year 2020-2021.

He also indicated that the ministry has 45,218 seats for students at the public universities and institutes of the Kurdistan Region.

A total of 43,277 students have currently been accepted at the universities and institutes of the Kurdistan Region, while 4,067 seats remain unfilled and are designated for students from the disputed areas and top students of institutes who would like to continue their studies at the university. 

According to the Ministry of Higher Education, 62% of students are enrolled in free education, while 21% are enrolled in parallel studies which are special seats at the public universities and institutes for students who with insufficient degrees but would like to pay to study at their desired department.

Another 17% of the student were accepted for the evening studies at the universities and institutes of the Kurdistan Region.
