Kurdistan 06:13 PM - 2021-10-24

On Sunday, Bafel Talabani, the Co-President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, received in Dabashan, Paula Kanley, the Australian Ambassador to Iraq.

During a meeting, Bafel Talabani stressed the need to develop friendly relations between the Kurdistan Region and Australia in a way that serves their common interests, especially in the fields of economy and investment, and he stressed the importance of motivating business owners to invest their money in the Kurdistan Region.

The Co-President announced his visions on the political issues related to the post-election stage and the tasks of forming the new Iraqi government and the participation of the Kurds, explaining that the political situation in Iraq is unstable and that regional conflicts have a direct impact on political stability and the future of the Iraqi government, noting that for the next government to be accepted by all the parties it has to be a consensual government.

Bafel Talabani indicated that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan seeks to build a Kurdish national discourse so that the Kurds go to Baghdad as a unified force and call for their rights as a effective participant in the decision making in Iraq. He also stressed that the culture of exclusivity and intolerance should end and the conflicts should be solved according to the constitution, noting that this will be possible only if the Kurds are united.

The Co-President announced that the PUK have done radical reforms within the party and that they are reorganizing their work and trying to benefit from the energies of the youth people.

They also discussed a number of other important issues and exchanged views on them.
