Iraq's Ministry of Migration and Displaced announced the return of (64) Iraqis from the Akdah camp on the Syrian-Turkish border on Tuesday.
The Director-General of the Department of Migration Affairs in the Ministry, Ahmed Rahim Hassan, said in a statement that through joint coordination between the Ministry's office in Ankara, the Iraqi Embassy in Turkey, the Iraqi Ministry of Transport and the Ministry's branch in Duhok, (64) Iraqi citizens have been returned from Akda camp to their areas of origin in the governorates of Nineveh and Saladin.
Thousands of Iraqis, particularly residents of Nineveh province, were forced to flee to areas near the Syrian border after the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) overran their towns in mid-2014.
By the end of 2016, there were about 12,000 Iraqis residing in Akda camp.
