Bafel Talabani: Our candidate for Iraq's presidency is still Dr. Barham

Bafel Talabani, the co-president of the PUK, affirmed on Sunday their candidate for the post of Iraq's President is still Barham Salih who is currently holding the post.

Bafel Talabani, the co-president of the PUK, and his wife Lava Hikmat, participated in the voting process on Sunday at the Rawshan Badrkhan polling station in Slemani.

The co-president of the PUK said during a press statement after casting his vote: "My message is very clear, we will restore the PUK to what it was in the era of the nation's late President Mam Jalal."

"We will also restore Kurdistan and Kirkuk to what they were during the era of President Mam Jalal. There is a great rapprochement between the PUK and the Gorran Movement, and this rapprochement will be better and better in the future," he added.

On Sunday, the process of general voting for the early elections for the 2021 Iraqi Parliament Council took place all over Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Candidates are competing for 329 seats in the Iraqi Parliament Council, 83 seats are allocated to women, also nine seats for minorities.

The number of candidates across Iraq is more than 3,240, including 951 women, which is less than half the number of women who ran in the 2018 elections.

There are also 789 independent candidates, while the rest are within political parties and coalitions.

There are 25 million Iraqi voters, about 21 million are eligible to vote who have long-term biometric electoral cards, and those who have short-term electoral cards exclusively.

All governorates were divided among 83 electoral districts, and there are 12 electoral districts in the Kurdistan Region.
