Iraqi President Meets Kuwait PM in New York

On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Sabah. The meeting was held at the His Excellency President Salih's residence in New York.

The significant positive developments in the Iraqi- Kuwaiti ties, which are at the best, were praised during the meeting.

Emphasis was placed on the need to strengthen the mutual cooperation between the two countries across all sectors, particularly political, economic, trade and cultural fields.

Discussions focused on the need to further enhance coordination of positions that aim to promote security and stability in the region.

Iraq is eager to build close relationships with Kuwait and promote joint cooperation in a way that would most benefit both countries' citizens and nations, President Salih said, while Iraqi efforts are focused on boosting Iraq's security and its stability, and this would be done through supporting stability in the region.

Arab, regional and international cooperation and coordination are also required to meet regional security and stability, he added.

Kuwait's Prime Minister, Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Sabah, in turn, emphasized his country's endeavors to develop Kuwaiti-Iraqi relations in all sectors and support security and stability in Iraq.

Additionally, he praised the role played by Iraq to defuse crises in the region as he underlined that Kuwait stands beside Iraq in its good offices.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister commended Iraq's role to build the cornerstones of regional and international stability. He asserted his country's desire to enhance ties and to work closely together with Iraq towards achieving economic integration and addressing the sources of tensions and instability in the region.
