Bafel Talabani: ISIS remnants still pose a serious threat to stability in Iraq

On Monday, the Co-President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Bafel Talabani, received in Dabashan, the German forces' official in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, Colonel Marcus Maier.

During a meeting attended by Azhi Amin, head of the the Intelligence Agency (Zanyari), security situation,  mechanisms for confronting ISIS remnants, coordination between the Peshmerga forces, the Iraqi forces and the international coalition and the unification of the Peshmerga forces were discussed.

During the meeting, Bafel Talabani said, "ISIS remnants still pose a serious threat to stability in Iraq, so there must be a greater coordination between the Peshmerga forces, the Iraqi forces and the Global Coalition."

Talabani also requested the formation of a joint project to fill the security vacuum in the borders as well as the formation of joint forces to face any emergency situation.

The Co-President stressed the intensification of efforts to unify the Peshmerga forces, declaring at the same time the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan spares no effort to build a national armed force on the basis of new military science, calling for German forces' cooperation towards the success of this national project.
