President Salih: High Standard of Iraqi Academic Education Should Be Maintained

On Monday, August 23, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Mr. Nabil Kazem Abdul Sahib. The meeting was held at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.

President Salih spoke about how important it was to ensure a high standard of scientific level of Iraqi universities, with focus on guaranteeing scientific independence.

Various scientific and cultural disciplines should be supported and extended in order to keep abreast of current developments and scientific achievements, he said.

 It is vital to meet our universities professors and students' needs, meeting Participants agreed, while noting that it is of great importance to surmount obstacles that they face.

Although Iraqi universities faced difficult times in past periods, they still had a good reputation in international forums, the Iraqi President said.

However, he called for strengthening cooperation with the universities of the world, in which advantage is taken of international expertise.

Therefore, Iraqi universities will be at the same position and standards of the world universities, he added.
Mr. Abdul Sahib, in turn, expressed gratitude for President Salih's directives as he briefed His Excellency about the functioning of the Ministry, its future plans and the challenges faced by the education sector in Iraq.
