Kurdish candidates win Finland municipal election

A number of Kurdish candidates won seats in municipal councils in Finland in the elections held on June 13.
Muhis Azizi, from the Kokomos National Party list, won for the third time a seat in the municipal council of Turku after obtaining 668 votes, and Burhan Ahmed of the Social Democratic Party secured a seat in the same council.
Daham Bahaa ElDin, representing the Swedish party, won a seat in the municipal council of Kauniainen, while Kadir Turan obtained a seat in the municipal council of Sipoo, and a number of other Kurdish candidates secured senior positions in the municipal councils in Finland. Kashaw Biabani in the city of Vantaa, Seida Sohrabi in Helsinki, Arkan Kozel in the city of Rauma and Muhammad Batman in the city of Kokkola obtained the position of deputy councils in their regions' municipal councils.
It is noteworthy that there are 296 municipalities in Finland, and each municipality has its own council. The councils are elected by the citizens every four years through a free and democratic election, and a large number of candidates from different political parties compete in the municipal council elections. The councils have a president and a vice president, and they are the highest administrative unit of the cities.
