Kurdistan’s High Referendum Council Works on Reactivating Parliament
The Kurdistan Region’s High Referendum Council convened with the political parties, lead by Masud Barzani and participated by Kosrat Rasul Deputy Secretary of PUK and Nechirvan Barzani, Kurdistan Prime Minister on Sunday (July 30) to work toward re-activating parliament within the next two weeks as part of the council’s preparations ahead of the planned independence referendum.
The council’s meeting was attended by members of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), the KDP and the KIU but did not include representatives from Gorran and the Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG).
The council’s representatives, following a meeting on July 8, agreed to form a delegation of party officials headed by Masud Barzani and Kosrat Rasul to visit Baghdad, neighboring countries and countries in Europe for talks over the referendum.
The expected referendum planned to be held this year was announced on June 7 during a meeting between the region’s political parties, not including Gorran and the KIG.
