Iraqi FM Signs Agreement with International Red Cross

Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari signed a headquarters agreement between Republic of Iraq and International Committee of the Red Cross with Mr. Khuan Pedro Shearer, International Committee Head's Representative for Red Cross, at the Ministry headquarters on Sunday 4 May 2008.
FM Zebari stressed, during the ceremony of the agreement, the importance of international organization's task in Iraq generally, adding that this organization is known for its efficiency and credibility in the world. FM Zebari said we have dealt with them in the past and we noted the high professionalism, through which, they submit their technical reports, in addition to that FM Zebari confirmed that the joint efforts with the organization focus on the possibility of developing the services for the Iraqi citizens and ways to improve prisons' conditions and ensuring the human rights.
His Excellency FM Zebari explained that this agreement will enable the organization to work in Iraq in accordance with the legal framework suggested by the agreement; especially the agreement identified the mutual commitments between both sides. FM Zebari added that International Red Cross will increase the number of international staff in Iraq in a way to upgrade the cooperation level between both sides.
Thus, before signing ceremony of the agreement, FM Hoshyar Zebari has received Mr. Shearer with his accompanying delegation at his office, during the meeting, a number of topics were discussed concerning with developing the international organization's role in Baghdad and throughout the Iraqi provinces generally, in addition to facilitating the organization's task and the most important ways of cooperation.
FM Zebari expressed foreign ministry's willingness to provide the necessity facilities to support the international organization's work in Iraq.
