Nichervan Barzani denies Peshmerga involvement in Basrah events

Mr. Nichervan Barzani, the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional government, denied the participation of Peshmerga forces in recent military operation in Basrah Province, he said:” News circulated about Peshmerga Forces participation in Basrah events are baseless.”
In his response to a question during an interview with al-Sharq al-Awsat Newspaper about the Peshmerga Forces contribution in Battles against al-Mahdi Army in Basrah and southern Iraq Barzani said:” News about claimed participation of Peshmerga Forces are false, the task of these forces is to protect Kurdistan Region only, the KRG did not receive any request to send these forces outside the Region.”
