Nimat Shabah’s Exhibition at International Photomonth Festiwal in Poland

The exhibition of Mr Nimat Shabah’s photos entitled “Kurdistan Behind Its Coulours” presented in the Kurdish Centre for Information and Documentation in Krakow, Poland, has joined the 6th edition of the “Photomonth in Krakow” - one of the largest photography festivals in Poland and the most rapidly developing in Europe. It is a first time when Kurdish photographer’s works are presented at Photomonths in Krakow.

Photomonth is a very famous, well-known, international event organized every year in Krakow. It attracts lots of photographers, critics, viewers and people who are simply interested in photography from all over the world. Festival lasts till the end of May and events are taking place in almost all of Kraków’s galleries, but also in places such as cafés, pubs, industrial spaces and even normal private apartments. Nearly 50 exhibitions are to be opened in May in Krakow within the framework of “Photomonth”, as well as lectures, workshops, meetings and screenings of films and slides, presentations etc.

The opening ceremony of Nimat Shabah’s photos took place on Saturday, 29 March, in the office of Kurdish Centre for Information and Documentation and was organized by Mr Ziyad Raoof, the representative of Kurdistan Regional Government in Poland along with the Kurdish Centre for Information and Documentation.

Nimat Shahab, born in 1974, is a Kurdish photographer who has 8-year experience in professional photography. He is a member of Kurdistan Photographer Association, the Head of Rezhyar Cultural, Artistic and Publicity Institute in Hawler, and currently he also hold lecture of Political History at Salahaddin University. His photos are showed in many Kurdish and foreign medias, e.g: Xebat, Midia, Ashti (Teheran), Nafal, and on websites: BBC, Kurdistanonline and Kufa.

Mr Shahab presented 40 photos taken in last three years in Iraqi Kurdistan in the following towns and cities: Hawler, Barzan, Akre, Lalisz, Shanadar and on the area bordered with Iran. The photos show people: women, children and men; landscapes: mountains, plains, rivers, nature; as well as the architecture of Iraqi Kurdistan: temples, citadel in Erbil and others. Every photo has its own description written in Polish and Kurdish. There are short but mostly poetic as the poetry is deeply rooted in the Middle East and especially in Kurdistan.
